Take in the magic of a
truly African Safari

South Africa is known for its majestic wildlife and lavish landscapes and nothing is different in Hluhluwe. It’s what gives this land its unique charm and authenticity. One of the most amazing ways to experience this African beauty is to take a guided game drive through the lands that tell of our rich heritage and magnificent grandeur.

Experience a BIG-5 Game Drive
at the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi
National Park

Hluhluwe Imfolozi covers some 96 000 hectares and is the oldest game reserve in Africa (proclaimed in 1895). An immense diversity of fauna and flora occurs in the park, whilst larger mammals include Buffalo, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Elephant, large numbers of Impala, Waterbuck, Common and Mountain Reedbuck, Nyala, Kudu, Bushbuck, Steenbuck, Duiker, Warthog, Black Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena and Jackal.

Our qualified game rangers are passionate about the reserve, and our fleet of open game viewing vehicles are fully equipped to transport guests into the Park each morning, a mere ten-minute drive away.

Game drives into Hluhluwe-iMfolozi must be booked at the reception desk on arrival. They can also be pre-booked before you arrive. At 05h00, you’ll get a wake-up call from our Safari Guide. At 05h30, all guests will meet at the Tree Lodge bar area for coffee and biscuits where the guide will do a short briefing. The tour will set off at 05h45 for approximately 3 hours, before returning for a buffet breakfast at the lodge.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive
or an educational guided walk
in the beautiful Ubizane reserve.

Ubizane, the Zulu word for ‘the place of calling’ is full of wonder and beauty as it literally calls you into it with its charming splendour. An open game drive around some of Ubizane’s 1200 hectares treats guests to an array of beautiful sights and animals.

Be prepared to see Giraffe poking their long necks above the trees, or Zebra running alongside the game vehicle. Expect close encounters with White Rhino, wildebeest and a variety of other plains game such as Nyala, Impala, Kudu and Duiker. You will also be introduced to the array of amphibians, reptiles and birds that ease their way around the reserve. Our tall, ever-popular Fever Trees in the Fever Tree Forest are a popular site for nests, which contain a host of birdlife, from Starlings to Eagles as well as a wide variety of ground birds.

With over 450 different species of birds at the reserve, avid birders are always happy to visit Ubizane. The guided afternoon tour offers a few minutes on the hill overlooking the reserve to take advantage of photo opportunities, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the view.

Get in the driver’s seat and enjoy a
BIG 5 experience with Self-Drives
at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi

A self-drive safari experience allows you to take your time around the reserve, giving you the freedom to explore without a group of people or a tour guide. With so much to see in terms of wildlife and scenery, you’ll be sure to spot something incredible!

Our reserve gates open at 6am and close at 6pm in the winter months. This changes to 5am and 7pm during summer. This leaves plenty of time to explore and go wild. You may even be lucky enough to spot the BIG 5…
